Here is the TL;DR of my deep dive into mnemonics:
-
After my master's in math, I got super interested in mnemonics & mental scene construction and I followed my nose into the human & machine learning literature. This was a bit unconventional and I describe the rationale behind it in more detail on the Personal Context page. The immense gap between how humans and machines process information is what initially drew me into mnemonics and my hope was to return to information processing problems with a fresh perspective.
-
Now, for my Ph.D. research, I am drawn to fundamental questions about the biology of memory. In particular, I want to help flesh out the experimental and theoretical details related to Sam Gershman's sketch. Before all else, there is a lot of experimental biology work to be done, for which I will draw upon my undergraduate research in dendritic spine morphogenesis & DNA editing technologies.
